Upgrade my 3GS to IOs4
I took the plunge on Monday to update my IPhone 3GS to the new IOs4. For me the longest part was downloading the new code. The upgrade process took about 45 minutes. I?ve heard a lot of reports about people complaining that the upgrade process for them took forever. Maybe their where trying to do their upgrade on a MAC, good thing I?m a PC 🙂 or maybe it was because I made sure I updated my copy of ITunes before I did the IPhone upgrade.
After the reboot I was greeted with a little shinier home screen, but no welcome or tutorial on the new features. Gee thanks.
From what I?ve seen and read, I wouldn?t really call this a full version upgrade. It feels more like a point release maybe 3.5 But since they are putting out a new phone they have to give the IOS a new version number and now a new name.
Some of the new features of IOs4 are (taken from Apple website and added my 2 cents)
Multitasking
Now you can run your favorite third-party apps ? and switch between them instantly ? without slowing down the performance of the foreground app or draining the battery unnecessarily.
** wow that?s earth shattering

** Yeah I want to read a book on a tiny screen, thanks

** Could be useful if you have local music, I tend to use Pandora or list to podcast.
5x digital zoom

** digital zoom can mess up the quality of the image but a nice new feature.
Tap to focus video
While shooting video, tap the display to choose where to focus.
** ok?didn?t notice any issues before
Faces and Places in Photos
View photos based on who?s in them and where they were taken.
**don?t use IPhoto so I don?t think this does anything for me

**This is a feature on a full version upgrade?

**how did I ever live without this

A built-in dictionary automatically suggests words and corrects spelling. It works in Mail, Notes, and other apps.
** did I miss something, I thought this was in V3?
Wireless keyboard support
Pair a keyboard based on Bluetooth wireless technology with your iPhone.
** Cool, but not for me, maybe if it could output the video to a TV like the Sprint HTC Evo
I know I sound negative on all of this, but my point is these are not new ideas or huge changes.
I think this cartoon sums it up very well http://imgur.com/q79oD Enjoy

Intersting review, of a nice tech wonder, but have you ever considered creating your own iPhone apps? 🙂
