Thank you so much Jorge and the activedir.org mailing list. I’ve been trying to figure out how to get a junior admin access to restart the print spooler on a windows 2003 SP1 box for over a month.
Delegating permissions to manage services on servers is not the easiest thing to do. You can do it from the command line or through a GPO in the “System Services” node. Either way you MUST take the current configured permissions into account, otherwise you might/will experience issues!
I do not like to use a GPO to do this and prefer to use command line tools in scripts. I’m not going to post a script, but I’m going to provide the information for the delegation of the permissions required and how to achieve that. For the scripting part, what you need to do is retrieve the current SDDL, add what you want to add and write the complete new SDDL back.

I’m going to upgrade my Virtual Center next week, this is a really good tip to keep handy.
A few people have notice that since upgrading to Virtualcenter 2.5 deploying a Windows 2003 VM from template no longer gives them the ability to customize. The option is disabled.
The fix for this is simple. You need to grab the new deployment tools from Microsoft’s site here also referred to as the sysprep files. You will be downloading WindowsServer2003-KB892778-SP1-DeployTools-x86-ENU.cab
This file needs to be extracted on the Virtualcenter server and placed in the following folder-
All Users\Application Data\Vmware\VirtualCenter\sysprep\svr2003
Once these files exist in the correct folder, you will be able to deploy your W2K3 template.

Tuesday had much better sessions for me. Two great clariion sessions, one was over 
my head but I got some tips from it. Then I had control center and rainfinity sessions, I don’t think these products are for us. It is so hard to get to sessions on everything I want to, I want to take a look at emailXtender and backup advisor (charge backs for avamar if we get it) But I’m busy with clariion,celerra, and avamar.
Melissa and I saw Spamalot last night, it wasn’t very busy so they moved everyone from the 2nd tier down to the floor. So we had really nice seats. It was a great show, I love the holly grace movie so it was a good time.
