• Remove users and groups from site access – Windows SharePoint Services – Microsoft Office – To properly manage access to the resources on your site, it is important for site administrators to promptly cancel the access of users who are no longer with the organization or whose role has changed such that their permission level needs to be adjusted.
 • Ask the Directory Services Team : RSAT Released for Windows 7 – How do I get back the missing tabs?

RSAT for Vista finally got back 4 of the 5 missing tabs for ADUC, but RSAT for Windows 7 RTM is still missing them. I assume they should match the names you see in Server 2008 R2:
Since we now have some RODCs on our domain, it would also be nice to have the Password Replication tab.

 • What is Enhanced vMotion Compatibility anyway? | The VMguy – Let me explain the problem, as some customers find it, and some do not. Here’s the issue: You start your virtual infrastructure by purchasing 3 hosts. Let’s say that the 3 hosts have Intel E5310 processors in them. You start to load up your VM’s on that cluster over the next 6 months. When the cluster is full you go back to your OEM vendor of choice, only to find that they no longer make that server model with a E5310 processor. The same model from the OEM now contains a Intel E5420 CPU. There are some differences in this CPU from those in the original hosts , specifically the instruction set (SSE4). If you try to add that new host to the existing cluster you will quickly find that you cannot vMotion to it.
 • CPUID – CPU-Z is a freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system.

VI 2.5 Client Plugin – SVMotion

Category : Post from around the Net, technology, vmware

I just got all six of my ESX servers up to 3.5 and VCenter updated to 2.5. Now I’m looking for good plugin’s and this one seems to fit the bill.

SVMotion is a VI 2.5 client plugin (the FIRST released, third-party plugin in fact) that extends the client’s functionality by providing an integrated, graphical tool that can be used to invoke storage VMotion (SVMotion) operations. This plugin is not supported by VMware. In fact, the plugin is not anywhere close to supported by VMware because it is the result of a two-week dive into the inner-workings of the VI client libraries with popular reflection tools (reverse-engineering). l o s t c r e a t i o n s is working on a white paper that describes how to build VI plugins.

16,000 Exchange Mailboxes, 1 Server – VMware VROOM!

Even with all that horse power, they didn’t talk about network traffic running all exchange 2007 roles on the same box. I wonder how long one of these boxes takes to vmotion. Also I’d like to know the details on how they setup the luns and if they used vmdk files

We recently finished a large Exchange 2007 capacity test on VMware ESX Server 3.5. How large? Well, larger than anything ever done before on a single server. And we did it from start to finish in about two weeks.

We did this test because we have felt for a while that advances in processor and server technology were about to leave another widely-used and important application unable to fully utilize the hardware that vendors were offering. Microsoft has guidelines on what environment works well with Exchange, and a system with more than eight CPUs and/or 32GB of RAM is beyond the recommended maximums.

We haven’t upgraded to 3.5 yet, but I’m going to have to check this out once we upgrade.

Storage VMotion simplifies array migration and upgrade tasks and reduces I/O bottlenecks by moving running virtual machines to the best available storage resource in your environment. But There was one downside to it. Migrations using Storage VMotion had to be administered through the Remote Command Line Interface (Remote CLI). Asp24 created a webpage that does the following: Log in to VirtualCenter (2.5) and get the storage/config file paths for all registered VM’s (like this: iscsi1_1 vm/vm.vmx) Put the list into a dropdown menu and have an input field for the target storage location. And a move-button to start svmotion. You can read all about it in this community thread.

Busy week, not many posts

Category : News

Let’s see Monday started by having the drive our exchange logs on fill up. Yeah….who would have thought we could have 3GB of changes to the database over a weekend…..exeutil is your friend…
The rest of the week, we’ve had an onsite vmware workshop. We installed 3 Dell blades with ESX onto our SAN and we now have VCenter and Vmotion. This stuff ROCKS!!! VCenter is SO MUCH better than the MUI you get when you only have ESX. The workshop runs one more day. Only a few more things to clear up and then it’s time to move about 15 machines to the new virtual server farm.
This Saturday we have family coming for a Christmas party and if the weather is good enough we are heading to Detroit Sunday for the Lions game. You can’t beat free tickets!!!!
