If you haven’t used USENET before here’s a description from Wikipedia

A usenet newsgroup is a repository usually within the Usenet system, for messages posted from many users in different locations. The term may be confusing to some, because it is usually a discussion group. Newsgroups are technically distinct from, but functionally similar to, discussion forums on the World Wide Web. Newsreader software is used to read newsgroups.

While newsgroups were not created with the intention of distributing binary files, they have proven to be quite effective for this. Because of the way they work, a file uploaded once will be spread and can then be downloaded by an unlimited number of users. More useful is that every user is drawing on the bandwidth of his or her own news server. This means that unlike P2P technology, the user’s download speed is under his or her own control, as opposed to under the willingness of other people to share files. In fact, this is another benefit of newsgroups: it is usually not expected that users share. If every user makes uploads then the servers would be flooded; thus it is acceptable and often encouraged for users to just leech.

Linux has become one of the most reliable operating systems in the digital world. Yet, like other operating systems, it is likely that a user’s Linux volume may get deleted, and the user may encounter data loss. In cases of disk failure, virus attack, power surges, accidental deletion of partition, software conflict, inaccessibility of the hard drive by the operating system, or registry file deletion, one encounters data loss. Apart from that there are various reasons that may directly or indirectly lead to data loss. In such a situation, you have little option but to opt for Linux Recovery using backup, to ensure that your working is not hampered. However, in case the backup is unavailable, not-updated, or non-working, then you need to opt for Linux data recovery solutions.

Consider for example that you try to access some data file using Linux partition, and instead of the file opening in front of you, following message greets you:

File is inaccessible

or,

File not found

or

Inode entry of the file is deleted

These errors are a result of corruption or deletion of a data structure which control and manage various file creation and access activities. This data structure is known as Block Group Descriptor, and stores information super block, block bitmap, inode bitmap and inode table. The Block Group Descriptor is used very frequently by the file system and the operating system, its corruption can lead to the operating system failure in accessing the specified files. This causes data loss in Linux.

However, with a clean and updated backup in place, it is not a difficult problem to handle. But in case the backup is absent, non-working,or not-updated, then data loss is unavoidable.

To recover data in such a case, one has to opt for third party Linux data recovery software. These are tools that recover data from Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, and FAT file system volumes. Recovery is performed for all sorts of office files, photos, videos, audios, and BKF files, by applying complex algorithms. Causes and Tips to Resolve the STOP Error When Booting Windows XP

When your Windows XP does not start, then there could be various hardware or software related problems behind it. Some problems can be sorted out using some or the other workaround while some of these problems are so rigid that these can only be corrected by reinstalling the operating system. However, in such cases there is always the risk of losing your data. In such desperate circumstances, I would advise you to use a professional data recovery software to safely recover all the valuable data.

Let’s consider a situation wherein you are not able to start your Windows XP system. The following STOP error is displayed in the process:

“STOP 0x0000000A (0xBFD14AAC, 0x000000FF, 0×00000000, 0x8000F67C)

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Cause:

This kind of error message appears when any one or all of the following conditions is true:

·     The system tried to touch the pageable memory at a reasonably high process internal request level.

·     A hardware driver is using an incorrect memory address.

·     A device drive is incompatible with the operating system.

·     There is a general hardware error that is causing the issue.

·     There is an incompatible software that is having conflicts with Windows XP.

Resolution:

In such situations, you should perform the following methods to fix the problem:

·     Troubleshoot third-party driver problems: If there is any problem with the third-party drivers, then you should perform the following methods:

◦     Analyze third-party software that are recently added: If a third-party software is causing this problem, then try to remove or disable it.

◦     Analyze third-party hardware that are recently added: If you have added a new hardware that is causing the problem, remove it and see if it solves the problem.

·     Restore Windows: You should try to bring Windows to a former state using the following methods:

◦     Use the ‘Last Known Good Configuration’ feature: This feature brings the system to the state when it started successfully.

◦     Repair the Windows XP installation: If the previous method does not work, then try to perform a parallel Windows XP installation.

◦     Use the ‘Rollback Driver’ feature: Try to start the system in Safe Mode. Then, see if you can replace the existing driver to the previous one that worked.

◦     Use the Windows XP ‘System Restore’ feature: Try the System Restore method, if you are able to start the system using Safe Mode.

If the system does not start even after doing these methods, then the situation calls for a third-party data recovery software to recover data. These data recovery tools possess rich user interface that makes it easy for the user to easily understand its features.

Looking for new wireless router

Since I’ve moved back to Charter and there higher speeds. My old Linksys WRT54G with Tomato firmware doesn’t seem to be keeping up. I’ve had drops and low signal issues with it the over the last month. I don’t always get the speeds I should be getting when I do a speed test (but when I plug directly into the cable modem I do get the high speeds consistently)

The last draw was the new ATT Microcell I got won’t stay connected or pull an IP 90% of the time. I’ve tried the unit at work and it will pull and keep an IP every time. I’ve tried different ports on the router and different Ethernet cables same with result.

Last week there were reports of ATT sending letters to some customers offering them a free ATT 3G microcell.

Well today I got a letter from ATT. Some how I’m a VIP customer and was offered a fee microcell. I hope to go pick it up tomorrow.

I’ve only been an ATT customer for about a year, the only thing I can think of is I used the ATT iPhone app to report bad coverage called Mark the Spot

First Sharepoint 2010 project

To learn SharePoint I am developing a Project Site for work. We have a deal with a SharePoint consulting group for weekly meetings to help me get past my stucks.

Right now I’m working on the forms for the Projects.

Our projects have five different stages, so I’m using SharePoint designer to create a form for each stage. Each stage has different required fields. So in stage one there’s only about seven required fields, by stage three its up to eighteen fields.

A quick way to create a form in SharePoint designer is to create all of your columns in the list first.

Then click on the details of the list, you’ll see the list of forms in the right side column.

You will have three options for the type of form you create (new,edit,display)

By default the new forms will include all the fields from your list. What I did for each form is just create the first form then do a SaveAs for the other forms. Now I’m going back and removing the fields and columns I don’t need for each stage.

When I’m done I’ll have a total of twelve forms. I’m creating one of each type for all stages. I might not need them, but since we are still working through the process flow and how this is going to work. I figured it would be good practice to create them all.

Next I’ll start with workflows that will be triggered by the submit button.

 

A few things I ran into:

After I added all the new feeds, I had to create a “new” form before I could create an edit form with the new fields. If I didn’t the edit form just contained the original fields.

I just started testing the workflows and it seems like I cannot add actions to the default save button that is auto created on the form, it looks like I have to delete that and add my own button object they edit that to do a commit and custom action.

 

I’ll continue these post as I learn more and get stuck.
